This is about the man who died due to heat exhaustion during the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority’s (SEWA) blackout. I wonder what would happen to his family which consists of his wife and two children?
He was the sole bread earner for his family. Imagine the hardship the poor wife and children are going through. And being a poor family, I’m sure that they wouldn’t have been able to afford a life insurance package.
I feel that it would be wonderful gesture of care on the part of the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority if it could compensate the family for the death of their loved one; which was caused indirectly due the board’s own fault.
This would at least help them to patch up their soiled image a bit; which has received a severe bashing recently, from the public and the press over the ongoing power cuts.

too bad. This guy was a construction worker. max salary - AED 1000...Why should we wait for SEWA to do something (they won't)...Can we mobilize donations for the family using social media?! Can 7days help in locating the family so that they get the money...?
Posted by: heady [01.Aug.10 3 : 51 PM]Odds that SEWA offer compensation if the widow signs a public apology stating SEWA is not responsible, and all accountability rests with the Sun.
Posted by: Fat Bhoy Tim [01.Aug.10 12 : 31 PM]day7, it is very fair to bash SEWA. This has been going on for a while and it is not something that happened over nite. They are hurting everyone on an individual, commercial, and emirate level. There is something fundamentally wrong and they don't seem to be able to get it under control.
Posted by: Crunch [01.Aug.10 12 : 02 PM]It is a tragedy no doubt. Obviously Sharjah is facing an energy crises. If only there was a city close by which had recently gone through a property boom leading to many vacant apartments where people from Sharjah could move.... hmm.......
Posted by: The Daily Bugle [01.Aug.10 12 : 01 PM]day7, 'every city' you say? Far as I remember, I don't recall a powercut in dubai for years? This is Sharjah daily.
Posted by: apermal [01.Aug.10 11 : 48 AM]You know the answer to that one Roger: NO. If SEWA offered something, that will be admitting responsibility for something that is indirectly caused by their actions. The way things are going, they are not even admitting responsibility to their own actions. Their strategy is that if they keep quiet, maybe people will not notice the power cuts.
Posted by: Crunch [31.Jul.10 9 : 42 AM]My hearts goes to those who suffered the power cuts and I agree with you that SEWA is obligated to sponsor his family in anyway possible. However it was not fare bashing SEWA! I mean it was not their intention to power cut the city, for sure they were doing their best to solve the problem , it's not like they were drinking lemonade while ppl were suffering the heat. Those are technical problems that happens in every city.
