Once upon a time, children kept themselves busy with a game of hopscotch, playing marbles and climbing the occasional tree.
Today, they have video games, the internet and endless activities to choose from.
And in Dubai, the ante has been upped with the inaugural ‘Back 2 School’ festival to be held on October 17.
The music festival, with a special performance by punk rock band Alien Ant Farm (pictured below), along with three local bands will take place in Dubai Festival City from 2pm until midnight, targeting children and teenagers aged 18 and under.
The Back 2 School concept is based on the premise of mentorship programmes with eight national talent competitions held, encouraging creativity, learning and the stimulation of minds.
Incorporating the theme ‘Shout. Share. Live. Unite’ (which sounds like an appropriate high school anthem), the competitions are aimed at unearthing the UAE’s youngest and most dynamic musicians, writers, film-makers, designers and photographers from different age categories.
Find out who the winners are on the day of the festival and remember parents, you must be accompanied by a minor to be able to gain entry - a nice little twist that the kids will appreciate.
