Back to National News listThe managing director of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has urged people to do their bit to help the environment.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, also CEO of DEWA, said the authority wants to help instill a culture of environmental conservation across the UAE.
He made his comments at a workshop on recycling and water conservation that was also attended by Dr Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahad, the Minister for Environment and Water.
The workshop was organised in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water at Dubai Mall to kick off five days of activities to mark World Environment Day.
Al Tayer said: “We need to work together to better understand how our daily activities effect our environment, and what we can do to make a positive change.
“Even minor changes can go a long way to effectively reduce our carbon footprint.
“Through our round-up of activities on the World Environment Day, we aim to encourage every member of society to come together to contribute to this endeavour.”
DEWA’s energy conservation schemes include the recent ‘Best Consumer’ campaign that rewarded 13 home consumers with cash prizes of up to dhs22,000 for reducing individual water and electricity consumption.
The authority also recently distributed low flow restrictors to some of its home customers, along with guidance on how to reduce electricity and water consumption in the home.
