DAVID BECKHAM has been told to expect as many boos as cheers from his home fans when he returns to action in America later this month.
Beckham is scheduled to play his first game of the season for Galaxy in their away fixture to New York Red Bulls on July 16, but he has already missed the club’s first 17 games of the new season.
But the England midfielder has been warned that LA Galaxy fans might not be in a forgiving mood after he revealed his plans to permanently join AC Milan.
Beckham’s ‘timeshare’ agreement with Milan means he will return to the San Siro in November and US football bosses have warned him his changed priorities have put some some fans’ noses out of joint.
“I’m sure there will be some negative reaction from some fans,” said Sunil Gulati, president of the US Soccer Federation. “That’s inevitable, but in the end he’s a good player, a football icon and I think he'll help his team and the league.
“But are there going to be some people that are upset? Sure.”
Without the ex-England captain in the side, the Galaxy’s gate receipts are markedly down - the team are averaging just over 19,000 fans per home game so far this season without Beckham, which is about 7,000 fewer than last year.
