Dubai: A Nigerian man has been sentenced at Dubai Court of First Instance to ten years in jail and fined dhs50,000 for trying to smuggle more than 5kg of cocaine in nappies.
The 36-year-old man had been charged with possessing and trading drugs.
Police stopped the defendant at Dubai International Airport in February because he was acting suspiciously.
“He changed direction when he saw me,” an officer said. “I asked him if he had any bags and he said he didn’t, but I found two with his name on.”
When they searched his luggage they found the drugs hidden inside bags of nappies.
