A plastic surgeon has been jailed for negligence over a liposuction operation.
The 61-year-old British surgeon and a 55-year-old Egyptian anaesthetist have both been sentenced to a year in prison along with a fine of dhs10,000 and deportation in connection with the incident.
Dubai Court of Misdemeanours was told that they operated on a 27-year-old Emirati housewife.
The woman died after undergoing surgery.
During the operation they asked an Indian cleaner to help out and also asked a nurse to wake up the patient while she was still under anaesthetic, which caused her to stop breathing.
They were charged with professional misconduct, negligence, malpractice and allowing unskilled personnel to practise medicine.
The two men, along with the hospital manager, were ordered to pay dhs200,000 in blood money to the family of the patient.
The defendants have appealed against the verdict and the first hearing is due in October.

I dont know when this country will have in place proper regulations for health care service. it is a total mess, greed and malpractise, unqualified staff and no real control is there to verify quality of services when the business is about " the human life"!!!
