Man stole dhs660,000 from business partner

A businessman embezzled dhs660,000 from a partner after agreeing to open a business for him in Dubai.

The man, who is Pakistani, has now been jailed for a year after being sentenced for theft at Dubai Court of First Instance.

The court heard the 28-year-old defendant had stolen electronic goods from his partner, who is also Pakistani.

However, a co-defendant, who is Chinese, has been found not guilty of the same charge.

The victim, who is 46, was living in Kuwait where he had a number of shops selling electronic goods. He then opened an office in Dubai with the help of the Pakistani defendant with the aim of importing and exporting goods.

“I asked him to sell the goods to shops in Dubai and also to rent a store in Al Qusais Industrial Area,” the victim said in a statement that was put before the court.

The victim said: “After a while I heard that he moved the goods to a warehouse belonging to a Chinese man without my knowledge.

“And he also refused to pay me the full amount for the goods and only sent me dhs40,000.”

The victim then came to Dubai while the defendant was abroad. He met with the Chinese man and asked him to return the goods, but the Chinese man told him to wait until the defendant returned as he had entrusted him with the items.

The Chinese man’s lawyer, Abdullah Al-Nasir, said his client was innocent.

“There was no evidence to prove that he was part of the embezzlement and the court found him innocent,” Al-Nasir told 7DAYS.

The defendant will be deported back to Pakistan after serving his sentence.
