Five years ago a financial advisor from Britain decided to swap his desk for the saddle and cycle across the world.
More than 1,800 days later, the father-of-two arrived in the UAE to peddle his way around the Gulf as part the Middle Eastern leg of his epic journey.
Keen cyclist David Piper has clocked up 16,000km and crossed 26 countries since he made the decision to take on the biggest challenge of his life. “It all started when I read a book by a head-mistress who decided to cycle around the world and write about it.
I was inspired and decided to do the same.”
Piper, 44, takes time out of the office three or four times a year to complete another stage of his circumnavigat-ion of the globe.
Piper, who has been knocked off his bike twice, chased by dogs and inspected by curious camels on his travels, is setting off for Oman today.
Piper is raising funds for disability charity Scope during his adventure, which he hopes he will complete by 2013.
