Plastic surgeons are not doing enough to educate clients before they reach the operating table, one of Dubai’s leading plastic surgeons has said.
Dr Luis Toledo (pictured) said that plastic surgeons should consider the patient’s overall health and beauty before opting for surgery.
He said this should include the patient’s dietary habits, smoking habits, heart disease and mental wellbeing. He made his comments as he released statistics showing that liposuction made up more than half of all visits to his clinic.
Dr Toledo said: “The most important part of an interview between doctor and prospective patient covers the issue of expectations versus realities.”
He added: “We can take a broader perspective regarding the patient’s overall health - dietary habits, smoking, heart disease and mental wellbeing.
Physicians have to think of themselves as physicians first and plastic surgeons second.”
