Back to National News listA seven-year-old Palestinian boy may be saved from a leg amputation following an intervention by a team of Dubai surgeons.
Two doctors volunteering for the Little Wings Foundation have now assessed burn victim Osama Zayed and say they may reverse a decision by Palestinian doctors to cut off his leg.
7DAYS reported yesterday how Dr Chris Whately, an orthopaedic surgeon based at Medcare Hospital in Jumeirah, is part of a three-member team who flew to Palestine on Saturday to treat Osama and dozens of other children.
He said that Osama’s prognosis is better than they expected.
“We told Osama’s parents the news that they wanted to hear for their child.
“They had been told that his leg would have to go, but we have recommended no surgery in the short term,” said Dr Whately.
The burns from a house fire have stunted the growth of one of Osama’s legs.
