A beauty salon worker who was repeatedly stabbed at Wafi City on Thursday has undergone an operation and is recovering well, according to medics.
Alma Shakar, a Filipina salon worker at the mall where she was attacked, is in a stable condition at Rashid Hospital after undergoing a laparoscopy, a type of keyhole surgery, on her stomach.
It is alleged Shakar was knifed several times in the abdomen by her Nepali boyfriend who then turned the blade on himself.
He was also taken to Rashid Hospital’s intensive care unit but has since been transferred to a different ward where he is also believed to be stable and was yesterday under sedation.
A spokesman for Dubai Police said officers were investigating but had been unable to interview the suspect due to his condition.
Welfare officer at the Philippines Labour Office, Mary Simangan, has been visiting Shakar and said the details surrounding the case remain unclear.
She said: “The nurses say she is making good progress and the operation went well.
She is still very sick and it will take her some time to recover I think. We have heard she was stabbed by her boyfriend but we don’t know why it happened - whether there was some argument or disagreement or something. We will be giving her as much support as we can.”
Shakar is currently under sedation and has also been unable to be interviewed by police.
Nurses say they expect her condition to improve in the next three to four days.
