Abu Dhabi's no walk in the carpark

Parking garages in Abu Dhabi are the most expensive in the world for a day’s stay, a Colliers International global study has shown.

Colliers found that parking for the day in an underground or covered garage in the central business district of the UAE capital reached $55.

The next most expensive city was Oslo, followed by Tokyo, the City of London and Sydney.

Meanwhile, Dubai wasn’t lagging too far behind, as a day’s parking at garages in its prime business locations could set you back up to $40, putting it in the 13th spot worldwide.

The least expensive business district in the world to park for the day was in Chennai in India, at a cost of just $0.96.
For monthly rates, Dubai was more expensive than Abu Dhabi, at $240.

Abu Dhabi proved much more reasonable per month at around $200, almost a fifth of the world’s highest monthly rate in the City of London at $932.99. The rising cost of parking was a sign of the easing recession, Colliers said.

“Highlighting the bounce back in a number of financial centres, parking rates  in the City increased 2.1 per cent over the past 12 months,” the firm added.
